Lukas Bacho is a first-year Ph.D. student working in philosophy of religion. His research focuses on “the other” as conceived in Western modernity, especially by thinkers associated with German Idealism and its legacies (phenomenology, existentialism, etc.). Lukas’s primary questions include: who the other is; what ethical claims the other makes; how such claims may be satisfied; and the extent to which such claims are religious, secular, neither, or both. These concerns sustain his interest in the ambiguous relationship between thought, emotion, and action across philosophical theology, ethics, religious epistemology, and philosophy of mind.
Lukas also has methodological interests in the Continental-analytic divide and antagonisms between philosophy and religion. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Yale.
