Jeania Ree Moore

Jeania Ree Moore is a PhD candidate in Black Studies and Religious Studies whose research draws on theology and ethics to engage a range of sites in African American history and culture. Inspired by the romance novels she used to steal from her grandmother’s bookshelf, her dissertation examines popular romance fiction as a site for women’s moral agency and theological meaning, focusing on the work of Black historical romance writer Beverly Jenkins.

She holds degrees from the University of Cambridge (MPhil), Emory University (MDiv), and Yale University (BA, MA, MPhil). Prior to returning to Yale for her doctorate, Jeania Ree worked in faith-based legislative advocacy for civil and human rights in Washington, D.C. She is an ordained Deacon in The United Methodist Church.
