Helena Martin

Helena Martin

Helena studies disability, demons, magic, and monsters in worlds of early Christianity and the New Testament. To examine embodiment and deviance in the first few centuries of the Common Era, she draws on Greco-Roman medicine; visual and material culture; and gender, race, crip, and disability theories. Her recent interests within early Christian art and literature include: healing narratives, vision and the Evil Eye, and demonic and angelic bodies.

Helena holds a Master of Divinity (MDiv) and a Master of Sacred Theology (STM) from Yale Divinity School, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Minor: Religious Studies) from Eugene Lang College at the New School University in New York City. She is also an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church.
