Yale Seminar in Religious Studies

A conversation with Hwansoo Kim and Chloë Starr
 

The Yale Seminar in Religious Studies will hold its fourth meeting at 5pm on Monday, April 1 (451 College, B-04). Chloë Starr and Hwansoo Kim will host a discussion on themes surrounding the relationship between state and religion and secularization theory. Attached are two brief readings to ground the discussion: Carsten T. Vala, “Protestant Christianity and Civil Society in Authoritarian China: The Impact of Official Churches and Unregistered ‘Urban Churches’ on Civil Society Development in China in the 2000s” (2012) and Zhe Ji, “Chinese Buddhism as a Social Force Reality and Potential of Thirty Years of Revival” (2012).
