The Church? Which Church? To explore the polysemy of a notion fraught with ambiguities, this Critical Dictionary of the Church has been conceived. It aims to be a tool for analyzing ecclesial communities as spaces for reflection on the foundations of “the social” in a well-identified vein: that of French social sciences of religion, as they have developed since the end of the 19th century, with the adjective “critical” summarizing the objective.
