Jusung Lee

Jusung Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Religious Studies at Yale University. His research examines the intersections of colonialism, modernity, and religious practice, with a focus on the transformation of Korean Buddhism under Japanese colonial rule (1910–1945). By analyzing the interplay between large-scale institutional reforms and everyday religious practices, his work seeks to illuminate the diverse forces that shaped colonial Korean Buddhism.

He received his B.A. summa cum laude in Buddhist Studies from Dongguk University, specializing in the historical development of Buddhism in Korea. He later earned a Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) from Harvard Divinity School, where he engaged with historical and cultural approaches to the study of Korean Buddhism within broader frameworks of religious and area studies.
