New Doctoral Field in Religion and Modernity

Publication Date:

The Department of Religious Studies announces the creation of a new doctoral field in Religion and Modernity. The field brings together faculty and students in Religious Studies as well as in departments throughout the university who work with concepts, events, institutions, texts, and practices at the nexus of religion and modernity. The field is designed to allow for diversity and ingenuity in the drawing of maps of inquiry while also interacting systematically with classic approaches to the study of religion and modernity as conceptual and historical formations. This kind of interdisciplinary thinking and practice is well established at Yale in the study of antiquity and medieval worlds. The new field brings the same spirit and strength to questions of modernity.
