Advising

Students are not assigned a specific advisor upon admission and are encouraged, especially during their first few years of residence, to work with as many members of the teaching group as possible. Students should review their plans for course work and exam preparation with the ADGS for theology (Kathryn Tanner) at the beginning of each semester. The teaching group holds a year-end meeting with every student to review progress during the past year and expectations for the next. A professional development workshop, attended by all students and members of the teaching group, meets over the course of the year to help students with publication prospects, conference proposals, and the job hunt; this workshop is also a place where students typically vet their dissertation proposals and draft chapters.
